Tattoo Aftercare in Charlotte, NC
Proper tattoo aftercare protects your skin, supports clean healing, and helps your tattoo retain its detail and color. Follow the instructions provided by your artist at Black Craft Tattoo Collective, since healing recommendations may vary depending on the tattoo, placement, and protective covering used.
FIRST 24 HOURS
Leave the original bandage or protective film on for the amount of time recommended by your artist. Wash your hands before touching the tattoo. After removing the covering, gently wash the area with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Do not scrub. Pat it dry with a clean paper towel and allow it to air-dry briefly.
DAYS 2–7
Apply a very thin layer of the aftercare product recommended by your artist. Do not over-moisturize. Wash the tattoo gently as directed, wear clean loose-fitting clothing, and avoid friction against the area. Light redness and tenderness can be normal during the early healing stage.
DAYS 7–14
The tattoo may begin to flake, peel, or itch. Do not scratch, pick, or pull at peeling skin. Continue gentle washing and use a light, fragrance-free moisturizer when the tattoo feels dry. Let the skin shed naturally.
UNTIL FULLY HEALED
Avoid swimming, baths, hot tubs, saunas, and soaking the tattoo. Avoid direct sunlight and do not apply sunscreen until the surface has fully healed. Do not shave over the area or perform activities that cause excessive rubbing. Once healed, use broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher to help preserve the tattoo.
WHEN TO CONTACT YOUR ARTIST OR A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Contact Black Craft Tattoo Collective if you are unsure whether your tattoo is healing normally. Seek medical care promptly for worsening redness, severe swelling, increasing pain, pus, red streaks, fever, or other signs of infection.
